Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged multiple large contracts across India through its Minerals & Metals (M&M) business, including major projects from Hindalco Industries and Tata Steel. The orders strengthen L&T’s presence in India’s aluminium and steel industries, underlining its engineering and construction expertise.
In a statement, L&T announced that Hindalco Industries has awarded it a significant contract to set up a 180 KTPA aluminium smelter and Gas Treatment Centre (GTC) at Hindalco’s upcoming greenfield project in Odisha. The contract covers civil and structural works, supply, and erection for the smelter, along with engineering, procurement, construction, and installation for the GTC.
L&T’s long-standing partnership with Hindalco spans over three decades, supporting the company’s growth in alumina, aluminium, and copper production. The new project marks another milestone in this collaboration and aligns with Hindalco’s expansion plans in eastern India.
In another major development, Tata Steel has entrusted L&T’s M&M division with building a 1 MTPA Coke Oven Battery 6 A/B at its Jamshedpur plant. The project includes engineering, manufacturing, supply, construction, and full installation of the new facility — a key component in Tata Steel’s production infrastructure.
The M&M division’s Product Business Unit has also secured several additional orders from clients across India for mining and material handling equipment, such as Stacker Reclaimers, Wagon Tipplers, Crushers, and Surface Miners — all critical for large-scale industrial operations.
T Kumaresan, Senior Vice President and Head of Minerals & Metals at L&T, said the new orders reaffirm the company’s reputation for “engineering excellence, execution capability, and enduring customer relationships.” He added that the contracts “strengthen L&T’s role in shaping India’s industrial infrastructure while deepening its engagement with the steel sector through world-class execution and technological excellence.”
L&T’s Minerals & Metals business provides comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solutions across industries such as mining, minerals processing, and material handling. The division’s Product Business Unit serves sectors including cement, steel, fertilisers, and ports, contributing to the country’s manufacturing base.
With these wins, L&T — a USD 30 billion Indian multinational with over eight decades of experience — continues to reinforce its leadership in engineering and industrial development through its focus on quality and customer-driven execution.
